Gary Neville calls Old Trafford owners’ neglect ‘very shameful’

Gary Neville has reacted to the condition of the stadium at Old Trafford following latest development, calling its owners’ role in it ‘very shameful’.

Neville made the statement while talking to Daily Mail after flakes of the rotting ceiling at the stadium fell on fans present to watch a match.

The bad state of the competition arena has been a subject of many topics in recent years because of the refusal of the owners, the Glazer brothers, to invest in the depreciated stadium.

This was why a level of excitement welcomed the one-quarter takeover of the club by Ineos’ Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who among other things, is to invest in the renovation of the sporting centre.

Speaking to Daily Mail recently, Neville mentioned that the stadium is no longer among the best in the world due to the unfriendly management of the Glazers.

‘The Glazer family have, for years, been warned about a lack of investment in Old Trafford,’ Neville said. ‘They have overseen a decline for 20 years in which it has gone from being one of the best stadiums in the world to one that can’t even get into the top 10 in the UK and Ireland.

‘This is an all-time low.

‘That it is not in the best ten to host a tournament is a joke.

‘There has been no investment. It is a rusty stadium. This is a dereliction of duty.

‘It is shameful.’

Manchester United, being only business to its American owners, has been sparingly funded by them because of how poor its financial harvest has been. Neville once claimed the club was a failing business.

But concerning the renovation, Neville had other ideas: a new stadium.

‘I actually think that it would be the right move,’ he confessed. ‘I think by the time that they have spent money on Old Trafford, the existing one, then I think you would be better off building a brand new, better, super stadium.

‘I do think that Manchester United should always be at the forefront of stadiums. Have the best facilities and they have fallen behind.’
