Jurgen Klopp: ‘It’s not important where you stand in the moment in the table, it’s where you go from there’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was speaking about Chelsea’s recent transformation when he said that what matters most is what happens later.

The two teams are expected to lock horns in a Premier League match tonight. While Liverpool rules on the table by 48 points, Chelsea holds the 10th position with 31 points.

However, the Blues have registered a good streak in recent matches, and Klopp had few things to say on the improving form:

‘Obviously Chelsea have not only an incredible amount of players, [which] everybody knows, but they have an incredible amount of injuries as well.

‘The players who are not available for them and stuff like this makes life really uncomfortable for each team and for each manager. I think now they have their core group together.

‘They have the midfield they want to play. They have probably the last line besides Reece James. Up front they have the player on the pitch they want to play. So, that’s Chelsea now.

‘For a long time they couldn’t line up like that and that’s obviously very different. That’s why if you go through the team it’s just a really, really good football team… you cannot see that in the table yet but [in the] last few weeks they made big steps in the table as well.

‘It’s not important where you stand in the moment in the table, it’s where you go from there. I expect them to make big steps but actually I want them to start after our game.’

One player the Reds’ coach will likely see on the pitch is Raheem Sterling whom an insider said is getting better at his role.

In his statement to Chelseafc.com recently, Blues’ head coach Mauricio Pochettino said the following about Sterling:

‘It’s always difficult to be at the top, as one of the best offensive players in the Premier League.

‘He deserves full credit, he’s really professional and I think this season he’s doing really well for us.

‘Now he’s improving in his physical condition. When we arrived he struggled a little bit in some points but now he’s improving a lot and he’s doing really well.

‘We are so happy with him in the way that he’s performing. He’s helping the team to perform and to win games.

‘Maybe he’s one of the most consistent players, but I don’t want to jinx it. He’s consistent and he’s always available which is a very good thing for us.’

Despite what Klopp hoped for, Chelsea will be looking to achieve what looks like an upset.
