Noni Madueke ahead of FA Cup contest with Aston Villa: ‘We want to keep that going’
Chelsea’s Noni Madueke scored the final goal during their 6-1 victory over Middlesbrough at the second leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal at Stamford Bridge. Apart from looking to play for the first time at Wembley Stadium, he wanted his team to maintain the effort they put into securing the Carabao Cup final.
‘It’s great, well deserved,’ the skipper said to Chelseafc.com. ‘Obviously, we came into the game a goal down but the approach from the boys was fantastic from start to finish. So to get a resounding win, come away with a 6-1 win, we’re happy.
‘It’s massive, a great achievement. Getting to the final is nice, but we want to win it. That’s what we want, so we’ve got to do everything we can to win the final.’
Then he added, ‘We’re in the final of one competition, so we want to keep that going. We want to continue our streak here at Stamford Bridge too.
‘We’re making it a tough place to come to again, Middlesbrough was a statement win in that. So now we go onto the next game and try to do the same.’
There is this particular player that Chelsea expects great things from presently. He scored two goals during the match — his name is Cole Palmer.
One of his team mates, Ben Chilwell, had the following things to say about him during the post-match interview while speaking to the club’s website:
‘He’s top. He’s so chilled on and off the pitch. You can see when he scores, obviously he cares, but it’s so nonchalant. It doesn’t faze him. He’s a top guy and a top player.
‘It’s important now that he continues this.
‘He has started, in the first half of the season, brilliantly and he is so important for us, so it’s important he continues like that for the rest of the season. We have some massive games coming up, and hopefully, he can keep it going.’
Chilwell was also excited about going to Wembley Stadium to play against either Liverpool or Fulham. It is official now that Chelsea will be facing Liverpool instead, after the Reds secured their ticket to the finals by knocking out Fulham.
‘I’d love to win the League Cup,’ said Chilwell. ‘Obviously, I haven’t won that, and I think it was a few years ago when we got to the final and lost, but I’m looking forward to getting back there and hopefully getting the win this time.’
