Speaking in a post-match interview published by mancity.com, the tactician said the following:

‘I love to win this type of game. The difficulty is there, we knew it. Everton at home is always complicated. We lost a lot of points over the years.

‘What I am happy with the most was the shape and the body language in the second half was much better.

‘The first half we were complaining. 12:30 kick-off is more difficult, but the body language was not good.

‘The chemistry between the players, we have to better, in the second half we were better.

‘We read better, the space we should attack. Kyle, Kevin, Bernardo, and Jack made an incredible contribution – especially Jack in the last minutes, to keep the ball.

‘I like to win these games suffering. How difficult it is in the Premier League. Nothing is for granted.

‘The way they celebrate shows how difficult it was and how pleased they are.’

Kevin De Bruyne assisted Haaland during the buildup that brought the second goal.

The 32-year old was recently sidelined by an injury, but said at his return and ahead of the match with Everton that his club should find ways to win games.

‘The competition is always there. Maybe this year there are a few more teams together,’ he had said.

‘Most of the teams maybe also dropped a little bit more points than they did in the years before, us included.

‘I wouldn’t say that anybody has had a fluent run until now and that can help us. We just need to try and do our job as good as possible.

‘The quality is there, the willingness is there, sometimes it gets finished in the details. I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t [win it], but the competition is really hard.

‘Last year we also had difficulties. Arsenal were doing great. But we found a way to win, and this year is no different.

‘We have to find ways to win games, to win difficult moments. Every year, no matter when you play, there are going to be moments where it goes easy and other moments it is really, really hard and tough to win games. You cannot compare.

‘In difficult moments, at the time you have that one, you have to figure it out, go through it mentally or the quality has to make a difference.’

Guardiola noticed De Bruyne’s performance on the pitch and how Haaland needed his help.

‘Since day one, Kevin needs runners and the runner off Kevin needs assists,’ said the coach.

‘There was a connection in a natural way. Kevin is back, Erling is back and it’s so important for us. The first goal was so difficult. I’m really pleased.’
